« À l’écoute des jeunes » depuis 1989

Depuis la mise en fonction de nos lignes téléphoniques, en 1989, les intervenants professionnels de Jeunesse, J’écoute fournissent aide et espoir aux jeunes de votre collectivité. Quel que soit leur problème, les jeunes de 5 à 20 ans peuvent bénéficier du soutien professionnel et attentif de Jeunesse, J’écoute, et ce, jour et nuit, 365 jours par année.

En nous adaptant aux progrès technologiques, en nous tenant au courant des problèmes qui sont importants pour les jeunes d’ici et en leur permettant de s'exprimer, nous avons gagné le respect et la confiance des éducateurs, des universitaires, des fournisseurs de services sociaux et, surtout, des jeunes eux-mêmes.

1976 Un petit groupe de personnes organise un souper de financement pour venir en aide aux jeunes Canadiens. Leurs efforts de financement sont fructueux.

1981 Formation de la Société de l’enfance canadienne, qui soutient financièrement plusieurs causes liées à l’enfance.

1984 La Société établit un partenariat avec le gouvernement et crée l’Institut de prévention du mauvais traitement des enfants en Ontario.

1989 Les Aliments Ault (maintenant Parmalat), la Banque de Montréal (maintenant BMO Groupe financier), Bell Canada et Nestlé Canada Inc. deviennent les commanditaires-fondateurs de Jeunesse, J’écoute, assurant le fonds de démarrage nécessaire au lancement du service téléphonique.

Les lignes téléphoniques sont mises en fonction le 16 mai 1989.

1996 Lancement du site Internet www.jeunessejecoute.ca, où les jeunes peuvent avoir accès à de l’information sur des sujets qui les préoccupent.

1996 Lancement du programme Étudiants ambassadeurs, commandité par BMO Groupe financier, à l’occasion de la Semaine internationale de la jeunesse. L’idée est venue d’une étudiante de 17 ans qui avait utilisé les services de Jeunesse, J’écoute et qui souhaitait que tous les jeunes Canadiens sachent comment obtenir de l’aide s’ils en avaient besoin. L’objectif étant de développer chez les jeunes un engagement continu envers l’action bénévole, le programme offre aux étudiants l’occasion de contribuer à la réussite et au bien-être de leur génération en faisant du bénévolat, en travaillant en équipe, en développant une conscience citoyenne et en prenant la parole en public pour le compte de Jeunesse, J’écoute. Depuis 1996, plus de 7 000 étudiants ont reçu la formation d’étudiants ambassadeurs. 

2000 Début du programme d’expansion du réseau des sections régionales. Alors que nos services connaissaient une croissance et que nous assumions de nouvelles obligations sur le plan financier et du marketing, nous avons élargi notre réseau de bénévoles locaux à l’échelle du pays. En 2000, nous disposions de six sections régionales; aujourd’hui, nous en comptons une cinquantaine et prévoyons en mettre d’autres sur pied. Les bénévoles des sections régionales amassent des fonds, font connaître nos services et gèrent le programme Étudiants ambassadeurs dans leur région.

2002 Intégration du service de consultation en ligne au site www.jeunessejecoute.ca. Grâce à la section « Pose ta question » et aux autres options ajoutées au site, les jeunes que nous avons aidés au téléphone pendant si longtemps peuvent désormais communiquer avec nous par le média de leur choix.

2004 Refonte du site www.jeunessejecoute.ca, ce qui donne lieu à une explosion des échanges en ligne avec les jeunes.

2006 Lancement de la campagne Prévoir l’avenir. La campagne Prévoir l’avenir de Jeunesse, J’écoute est une campagne de fonds de capitaux. Nous devons investir des sommes importantes pour augmenter notre personnel de consultation ainsi que notre infrastructure de services virtuels (c.-à-d. accroître notre capacité en matière de consultation en ligne et offrir de l’information beaucoup plus détaillée et adaptée aux différents groupes d’âge sur notre site). Nous devons aussi nous donner les moyens d’assurer notre croissance soutenue. Cet investissement nous permettra de suivre l’évolution des besoins des jeunes et de conserver notre pertinence auprès de ceux qui se tournent de plus en plus vers les technologies de la communication.

2009 Jeunesse, J’écoute célèbre 20 ans d’écoute auprès des jeunes au Canada.

La croissance et le succès jalonnent notre histoire. Nous savons que nous avons été la bouée de sauvetage pour de nombreux jeunes. Grâce à nous, des mauvais traitements ont cessé, des jeunes ont retrouvé l’espoir et des vies ont été sauvées. Pour les jeunes, Jeunesse, J’écoute est devenue un service indispensable.

He wanted to get off drugs and off the streets. The KHP counselor calmed Mike, assessed his needs, and found him a safe shelter. Years later, Mike called again. Now 20, he was back in school, with a steady job and a new life. He was calling to say thanks – not just for what KHP had done, but most of all for listening to him and believing in him. Mike says KHP helped him turn his life around. Today, he spends his spare time helping street youth. Ten-year-old Megan was being sexually and physically abused.
