Kids Help Phone/Jeunesse J’écoute - who we are:
Kids Help Phone’s mission is to improve the well-being of children and youth in Canada by providing them anonymous and confidential professional counselling, referrals and information in English and French, through technologically-based communications media.
For more than two decades, Kids Help Phone/Jeunesse, J’écoute has been at the forefront in phone and web counselling, earning the respect and trust of educators, academics, social service providers, youth mental health advocates around the world, and, most importantly, kids, teens and young adults. Kids Help Phone/Jeunesse, J’écoute is Canada’s only bilingual phone and online counselling service for youth. Professional counselors are available any time of the day or night, 365 days a year, to help young people deal with concerns large or small.
Kids Help Phone/Jeunesse, J’écoute Board of Directors:
We are seeking individuals interested in serving as volunteer members on the National Board of Directors of Kids Help Phone/Jeunesse, J’écoute to help us continue to fulfill our mission.
The Board of Directors is responsible for establishing the organization's long-term strategic directions and overarching policies, as well as overseeing annual objectives and monitoring the progress of the achievement of those objectives by the organization’s staff and volunteer teams.
Our Board of Directors is comprised of the offices of Chair, Vice-Chair, Past Chair, and representatives of our three constituency groups: Regional Representatives – Board members elected to represent our 6 regions (Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba-Saskatchewan, Alberta/NWT and BC/Yukon), Founding Partner Representatives (four individuals appointed by our Founding partners) and “Social Service”/Clinical Advisory Committee Representatives—3 individuals from across Canada who bring professional expertise related to our direct service delivery, as well as up to four Members at Large – individual Board members elected to complete the Board’s composition by bringing skills and expertise across a range of sectors and disciplines.
Time commitment for Board members includes attending four late afternoon/evening meetings per year in Toronto (travel expenses are covered by the organization); Board members fly in on a Sunday night or Monday morning. Additional required attendance includes an annual Board strategic session, occasional phone conferences and occasional committee/task force work.
Board members are also expected to support and participate locally in our annual national events, including the Walk so Kids Can Talk, as well as other leadership activities within the Region that may occur throughout the year.

We are seeking expressions of interest from candidates to fill the position of:
- Western Canada: “Clinical Advisory Committee” Representative.
The Clinical Advisory Committee Representative should:
- Be a respected, recognized and reputable member of the health/social services/academic sector in the region;
- Have expertise in the fields of child and youth services, from within a broad range of disciplines (e.g., social work, education, counselling, children’s mental health, clinical psychology, corrections, research, family practice medicine, etc.)
- Hold or have held a senior position in a social service, health care agency and/or academic institution.

The Regional Representative should:
1. Be a respected, recognized and reputable member of their community;
2. Have previous experience as a leadership volunteer and/or Board member;
3. Bring a deep understanding of philanthropy, and have the ability to support the work of Kids Help Phone/Jeunesse, J’écoute through networks and community relationships.
4. Be fluent in both official languages. Board meetings and correspondence are generally conducted in English.
